An ode to the Educated Illiterates (EIs) - Zara hat ke!

Off late my experiences with the so-called 'educated' section of our society have been so disappointing that I am sure that instead of working towards starting a NGO to help the under-privileged, I should start one to educate the EDUCATED or the privileged ones.

I am writing my MBA papers and this weekend while I was waiting in a queue at my examination center for my turn, a gal in her early-20s came from somewhere behind and stood next to me in the queue. I usually ignore such stupid tactics by the so called EIs (Educated Illiterates), but Delhi summers get to you, can't help. As soon as my turn came, she forwarded her hall-ticket to the Exam head, I casually picked up that piece of paper, smiled at her and said,"Can you please tell me one good reason why you forwarded your hall-ticket when it is my turn?". She looked at me in disbelief, with that titli-types attitude. Kids!!

The point of narrating this whole incident is that she was just one of those EIs. We have so many around us all the time, who don't care about what they have been taught all their lives in the posh schools they studied at. Education is supposed to be a powerful tool to be a responsible citizen and a human being, but it is sad that people take it for granted.

So I hereby, I give a tribute to all those EIs I have encountered recently :

1. The Mobile Phone leechs : I understand your life sucks and all, and you wanna die...but please spare the other people who are walking or driving on the roads. If you can't let go of your cellphone while you are driving, stay at home or hire someone to drive you around as you yap yap on the phone.

2. The "Yeh sadak tere baap ki hain kya?" spitters : They don't need a reason or a season. Be it a BMW or a Nano, Be it a corporate honcho or a sarkari daftar ka clerk, everyone competes on the road, for the longest range of spitting. If you ever look at them with disgust or tell them it's wrong, they will set you right.

3. The "Tujhey pata hain main kaun hoon?" rulebreakers : So the netas, the middle class and the upper class, everyone wants their kids to study in the best of international schools...but the end result is always the same. This category suffers from an identity crisis despite all the education and facilities in life. They live "questionable" lives...coz inhe pata nahi ki yeh kaun hain ;)

4. The "Yeh ladizz ki line hain" aunties and kudis : Just for record, there is no ladizz ki line anywhere anymore. The last I heard Indian Railways reservation counters also abolished them in most of the places. These kudis/aunties form a ladizz ki line everywhere, coz 1. they are educated 2. they KNOW the rules.

5. The "Budhdhe marega kya?"yo-yo generation : When I was in school, we were taught that one should respect elders, and trust their judgement in life. What we see on the roads, in public places, in homes is completely opposite these days. This category of EIs, need a "Buddha hoga tera baap" dose from our awesome grandpas and uncles. They donno that desi ghee ke paranthe still have an edge over Burgers :P

6. The Over-smart queue breakers : No matter how long the queue is, these people always have the audacity to walk up to the front and pretend like they belong their for the past 4 hours. Jai ho!

The whole point is... There are many kids who crave for books and studies, but they have to work at the age of 7 itself to earn for their family and here, we have kids who travel in AC cars and udaaofy maa-baap ka paisa but don't realize the importance of what they have.

If this is what our kids are doing after education, it is better to give a chance to the people who really value education, the kids who want, but can't get.

I am sure all of you have met some or the other kind of EIs in your lives. Feel free to add your experiences and categories in comments.

Note : AD gave me this idea of starting an NGO when I was rambling about this wonderful queue-breaker Chikita!

Well, it is a dubious thing. Manners and Education are two separate entities now. They should not have been mutually exclusive but our system of education doesn't require moral values to be learned in the same ways algebra.

That is what makes our character. How much educated you may be, how you behave in public makes what you are.

Very well said my dear!
Trust me- That NGO sounds like a great idea, in case you need any help, let me know :)

Dekho ji competition ka jamana hai.. line todna, rule todna are like qualities in disguise..
Bhai unko todna ata hai toh wo todte hain..
Samay paisa hai or wo line todkar apke samay ki maiyya karke apna samay bachate hain.. Toh ji bachpan se aage rehna sikhaya jata hai to sab aage rehne ka try marte hain.. uss chakkar me ek-do rule toot jaate hain.. log peeche chhoot jaate hain to kya hua? after all competition ka jamana hai or Pappu ko 1st ana hai..

waise post to interesting tha.. :P

Chalo.. Aap meri ekdum 100% original line suno :: "Mast Raho, Dilchasp Raho"

Abi likhi hai.. kaisi lagi??

Me,

You start that NGO and you have a volunteer in me. I also had written a post basically on driving and parking by such persons and called them Educated Illiterates.

Take care

The "Sadak mere baap ki he and traffic waale mere chacha" rulebreakers:

Many of EI take their vehicle on wrong side of road if there is a traffic block in their side. Other EIs starts follow that first EI and than there is a traffic jam on both side. They don't care about Traffic Police as they know Gandhiji will come to rescue them if it is required. :)

As Arpit Said, Competition ka zamana he and sabko aage nikalna he bhale hi wrong side se kyun na nikalna pade :)

Hahaha..this is so cool.I just love your attitude of expressing the feeling of encounters with EIs.
One very prominent incident i am able to remember right now is whenever you queue up(more of a chaotic crowd) for boarding a metro(delhi)..the gentle and humble guy would announce that let the passengers board down first and then enter. But who cares they want to take them ahead with themselves. You can board the next train that comes ,can't you spare that individual a journey to their undecided destination :P

Once I fought with a very good looking, educated and well mannered aunty at Central Store, coz she broke the queue.

And the worst was yet to come, the person on billing side took her shopping bag and started billing.

Tab mere husband ne mera deadly roop dekha :P. I shouted badly on both of them, called the manager.

Alas, I decided not to purchase anything from Central then.
