PARADISE LOST

'Shock' and 'Anger' brings me back to the blog-world. I never thought I wud come back to the blog like this but I could not help it. The news of the assault of women at Amnesia- a pub in Mangalore has shocked me. I know I live in a country where women are treated like shit and they are meant to be raped, molested and exploited. Oh! how did I forget it? Why this shock?? I donno. May be, I expected things to improve after what happened outside JW Marriot in Mumbai. I thought such things will not happen again, I was so wrong. Damn! How did I forget that I have some self-appointed moral police telling women what to wear, how to behave, when to smile, what to speak, how to breathe...?? BULLSHIT!! I donno how to put my emotions in words. I am simply pissed off with that Bloddy Asshole Shetty who is giving shameless interviews on news channels advocating his right to stop women from boozing and appealing to mothers and parents to stop their daughters from going to pubs and discotheques. Damn you bloody bastard!! You first get your act in place... Asshole... Who are you to tell someone what to do and what not to do?? Bloody frustrated soul, he made people molest women on the pretext of morally policing them. I hate to live in such a world. You ask me if I should try changing it... Damn! what shud I do? Kill these men?? Haan! All I can promise myself is that I will make sure that if I ever have a son and then I will teach him to be a responsible human being who understands that women are not meant to be treated like shit... treated the way they are treated now and then in my beautiful country, I wish I was proud of... I mean, how can you ever tell a woman not to booze or dance or enjoy... Does not she have the right to live it up like men do?? I myself am not into alcohol not coz I think it is down-market for a woman to do so...Nopes... Its only coz I personally feel it is something which will not affect me positively... Thats it... What do I say now?? I am facing this loss of words... I am angry, disappointed, broken and hurt yet again... Will this country ever stop hurting women... Will they ever realise that women have a right to live too... Will they ever let us women breathe in the air of freedom?? Pics : http://s3.causes.com/photos/lK/z6/AF/rm/RE/mY/dTnJ.jpg

it was a bad and disappointing incident.. but they way you started your post is so misleading and to be it appears now that there doesnt exist a boundary between being sexist and feminist for you.

the country you are talking about where women are treated like shit.. is the country where they had a lady prime minister in the past and a lady president in present. It is the same place where a lady called mayawati is the CM of the biggest and most influential state.. it is the country where the cheif of ruling party is a lady too.

morning cursing showing concern is genuine but then portraying once own country in a wrong way could be wrong. I am feeling bad for what happened in manglore and i am feeling bad for acid incident that happened on school gals in afghanistan. and the question will this country ever stop hurting women.. well which country doesnt? and which country has men which are not hurt either or are victims of ruthless crimes...

but yeah things need to get better which might not happen since you and I and most white collars like us dont vote.

FUCK THE BASTARDS!!!

i saw the reports too and was as enraged as you are..the footage was appalling and disgusting to say the least... in the name of tradition and culture these masochistic men go on a rampage and do whatever they want... and this is called freedom in India..the system is such a fucking hell!! where goons and so called moral police go on a rampage violating the most essential of all human rights..the right to love..damn the bastards, i just hope and pray they are booked for not only their heinous crime but daring to justify the act...such men need to be castrated!

*right to live and not love*

@aevi
you have brought forward some very valid points but then saying which other country doesn't do it is hardly the thing to say.. the thing that needs to be done is to create an awareness and make sure that least 1 person is educated enough to view things differently... i understand guys suffer too in many other crimes or things done to them.. but what right have men to physically beat up women, molesting and assaulting women and then justifying them?

Mads January 26, 2009 at 1:37 AM

thought we were in a generation where people had modern thinking and stuff. but its so not true...
they blame the girls and ask them not to enjoy...right to live, anyone???

disappointing it is...but the reality.. :(

Well...all this modern stuff to sa that women are equal to men,etc is JUST to SAY ...i guess....to reach there we still have to go very far...and there is definitely the doubt whether we will ever reach that stage...hmpf!

Hello Harshita

your post made my inner self think again...why is this happening in a country where the first citizen of the country is a woman, i dont understand...!!!

to me i think, women should stop listening to the world that tries to control her always...they have to listen to their heart and live accordingly..!!!

i feel that when a woman stand on their thoughts then no one in this world can control them. when we shout at those moral police trying to guide us all the way....we an think of a better society..!!

but yes, i know in a country like India...this is not practical..!!

on the day when this theory is turned practical, the whole country develops...!!!

abhishek January 26, 2009 at 9:50 AM

very sad incident...the footage was shocking to say the least...

Anonymous,  January 26, 2009 at 10:22 AM

I totally understand this impassioned outburst-I am sure thousands of women all over the country (and the world-I hopefully add) are seething with the same anger.
But you know Harshita, the irony is that women in our country are NOT supposed to treated like that-even if you look at religious scriptures, women have always been treated with reverence, irrespective of religion. How can these men forget that it was a WOMAN who brought them on this earth? They are here because their MOTHERS are here?
When will our society leap out of the garb of traditionalisthat it still wears?(Yes, its a garb)
I wish we could do something about it except sitting here and fuming...
ANYWAYS, stark post Harshita

It was outrageous. I was feeling helpless/sad/angry:(all at the same after watching those clips in news channels gurrr...:X these self styled 'Thekedaar' (owner) of hindu culture don't belong to Hindutava. But they belong to same class of senseless/idiots who beat their sisters & abuse their mothers at home. They can not belong to a religion which worship Goddess (Amba/Durga/Kali to name a few) and place mother above any God or Goddess. Shame on us and the CM of Karnataka!!But i am not shocked as i have seen these incidents in past!Police beating boys & abusing girls in parks, similar organization placing orders/fatwa /guidelines on the clothings for girls etc. "Hindu Taliban"

Skeeter January 26, 2009 at 1:25 PM

Hi Harshita!

A great post!!! This kind of thing made the news and drew your attention. I wonder how many times in places all over the planet has such a thing occured without any word getting out about it. Now that the word is out, take action like this post here to draw attention to the matter. The only way to drive out this mentality that treats women like this is to confront it directly. You are doing it and I salute you for it.

Best wishes,

Skeeter

omg harshi,

but this is real frustrating.. yeah.. y cant women go out and enjoy..

like we arent safe in \our own country, is like infuriating..

Ashutosh January 26, 2009 at 9:10 PM

The first time I saw this incident being covered on national television, it sent shivers down my spine. My instant thought was what if something similar happened to my sis or female friends..My sis lives in Bangalore and though she doesn't visit pubs n stuff, you can't guarantee the safety of a young working girl given the beast-like behaviour of the so called moral police. The images of those girls beng dragged by their hair are still running in my mind. As if terrorists weren't enough, we have these bastards commiting such shameless acts of barbarism. What's even more shameful is the fact that these journalists were busy shooting images of the entire incident instead of saving those girls. How dreadful is that...Where is this nation heading towards..

Mads January 26, 2009 at 10:49 PM

there is something for u on our joint blog, shit for tat...shhh cant reveal more..come and check it out ;-)

Anonymous,  January 27, 2009 at 7:36 PM

I turned my eyes off the television when I saw a girl falling on floor.
Uffffff...

Anonymous,  January 28, 2009 at 11:31 AM

yeah...hope the players in this game are brought to justice...

U can call me your attorney January 29, 2009 at 1:59 PM

true that even now the 21st century has sorry state of affairs..but this is one incident that got reported, what about other numerous ones, which happen zillion times in a day and no one comes to know about it?

we can, if not change the system, atleast try changing things around..your domestic maid, the girl next door, their dependent families..i tried doing that, and surprisingly got overwhelming response.
